Recent scientific research shows that coral ecosystems are under threat around the world. In 2007, scientists documented that we are losing the tropical coral reefs of the Indo-Pacific, which represent 75 percent of all tropical coral reefs, at a rate of two percent per year, or approximately two times faster than rainforest destruction.
